Service Description

An annual SSL Certificate which we install and maintain for you. This will encrypt your customer’s data and yours during transmission between the website server and the user’s web browser. Using a ‘key pair’, one public and one private, and a public key server with your website encrypts and de-crypts the data to achieve this.

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, a global standard security technology that enables encrypted communication between a web browser and a web server. It is used by online businesses and individuals to decrease the risk of sensitive information (e.g., credit card numbers, usernames, passwords, emails, etc.) from being stolen or tampered with by hackers and identity thieves. In essence, SSL allows for a private “conversation” just between the two intended parties.

To create this secure connection, an SSL certificate is installed on a web server and serves two functions:

  • It authenticates the identity of the website (this guarantees visitors that they’re not on a bogus site)
  • It encrypts the data that’s being transmitted

Web browsers vary but there are generally four visual clues to know if a website has the SSL encryption protection or not:

  1. Padlock to the left of a URL
  2. https URL prefix instead of http
  3. A trust seal
  4. A green address bar

SSL Certificates vary as well. If you have an eCommerce website where customer credit card information is being transmitted you’ll want this encryption and may want to have a certificate displayed on your site and some insurance should there be a negative event despite the protection. This SSL certificate service provides the ‘s’ on your website address and the encryption as outlined in a blog article on our website. Should you have additional certificate and are interested in adding malware and backup protection, please contact us to quote.
